Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me— now let me rejoice. Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Ps 51:8-10
Lost joy, broken spirit, shame, a filthy feeling. These feelings were not advertized when David was tempted by Satan with Bathsheba! Yet, this is the payoff! it always is with sin. That’s how Satan does business! As Charles Stanley has stated, “you reap what you sow, more than you sow, and later than you sow.”
We know David would never say, “Well it was worth it!” It tempers the feelings toward those who arrogantly flaunt their sin. For one day they will come to the same point of realizing the payoff is counterfeit!
For the believer who gets to this point, there is a longing to rejoice again, to be cleaned and to be renewed! Did it happen? Oh yes!! Grace prevailed in David’s life!
